Phone counsellors:The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre is seeking volunteers to train as phone counsellors to staff its 24-hour counselling line and as support personnel to attend the sexual assault treatment unit in the Rotunda Hospital. Volunteers need no previous experience or qualification. Applicants must be at least 25 years old and reside in the 01- telephone area.

Stop smoking:For those who need group support in their quest to give up smoking, the six-week Stop Smoking course at St Vincent's University Hospital, Elm Park, Dublin 4, is a useful option.

The next course there starts on Tuesday, February 26th at 6.45pm. There is €20 deposit which is refundable on completion of the course.

Free public talks:How the Dublin Fire Brigade Paramedics Teams Work will be the first topic of the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland (RCSI) free public talks on Wednesday, February 27th, at 7pm. Reducing your Risk of Subfertility/Infertility is the second topic at 8pm. Both talks take place in the RCSI, St Stephen's Green, Dublin.

Vaccine lecture:Are vaccines good for you? is the theme of Prof Kingston Mill's free public talk on Wednesday, February 27th at 6.30pm. It is part of the Biomedical Frontiers lecture series in Stanley Quek Theatre, Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute, Pearse Street, Dublin.

Le Leche conference:American author and breastfeeding specialist Nancy Mohrbacher will give the keynote speech at the annual La Leche League conference in the Carrigaline Court Hotel, Cork, on March 2nd and 3rd.

Paediatrician, author and father of three Dr Carlos González will talk about why children refuse food, the pitfalls of growth charts and how to raise children with love.

Cancer and diet:A healthy approach to diet when you have cancer is the theme of a free public talk tomorrow at 7pm by Diarmuid Duggan, senior oncology dietitian. It will be held at the Cork ARC Cancer Support Centre, Cliffdale, O'Donovan Rossa Road, Cork city.
