A marine Rescue helicopter joined the search early today for an eight-year-old boy who went missing from his home in Co Limerick last night. A Garda spokesman said there was "no explanation of any kind" for the boy's disappearance from his home in the Clarina area near Mungret, at about 10 p.m.

The Shannon-based helicopter joined the search, being coordinated by gardai at Limerick city, at 1.30 a.m. The missing child's family live in a rural area about six miles west of Limerick.
