Shane MacGowan is to play a homecoming concert for the Ned o' the Hill Festival in Co Tipperary tomorrow.

MacGowan is looking forward to the Tipperary gig with his band, the Popes, at Upperchurch, near Thurles. The 43-year-old rocker last played in Tipperary at Feile 1991. He sees the concert at Upperchurch as his homecoming gig.

"We will just go up there, set up and blast it out. This is a big kick for me. We have played in Tipperary before but not very often. There are not that many gigs here. I played at Kennedy's in Puckane," MacGowan said.

The former Pogues' frontman, who has moved permanently to Tipperary, is preparing for the launch of his new album later this year.
