New York - A New York hospital worker was struggling for survival last night after she became the first person in the state to be diagnosed with inhalation anthrax.
The 61-year-old woman is the second person without a connection to the postal service or the media to be infected with the disease .
A woman accountant in New Jersey who lives near a sorting office which handled the letter containing anthrax sent to Senator Tom Daschle is suffering from skin anthrax.
A White House spokesman, Mr Ali Fleischer, said the latest case brought the total number of cases to 16.
