Technology giant Hewlett-Packard tonight confirmed that 133 jobs are to be lost in Ireland.
The job losses are part of a cost-cutting programme which will see 7.5 per cent of its global workforce, equivalent to 24,600 people, offered severance packages.
The cutbacks come after the company's acquisition of technology services company EDS for $13.9 billion (€9.8 billion) earlier this year.
Hewlett Packard employs over 4,000 people at its facility in Leixlip, Co Kildare, while EDS has approximately 400 staff employed at its offices in Treasury buildings in Dublin.
Hewlett-Packard's restructuring programme is taking place over a three-year period and the company says it will save $1.8 billion (€1.27 billion) a year.
