CORK DEATH:GARDAÍ WERE last night awaiting the results of a postmortem on a pensioner whom it is suspected died from hypothermia after he fell in a field while on his way home in north Cork following a shopping trip.
Donal O’Connell (81), who lived alone at Doonagh, Milford, was found dead by gardaí shortly before midday yesterday in a field at Corraugh between Charleville and Dromina in north Cork.
Mr O’Connell was last seen alive at a supermarket in Drumcollogher in Co Limerick at about 6.40pm on Sunday and was reported missing on Monday when neighbours noticed he wasn’t at home.
Gardaí mounted a search operation on Monday night and again yesterday morning when they found Mr O’Connell’s red Ford Focus stuck in a field with Mr O’Connell’s body found nearby.
Gardaí have ruled out foul play and suspect Mr O’Connell died from hypothermia.
