Ireland is in the highest league for achieving Y2K computer compliance, according to the Minister of State for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Mr Noel Treacy.
He told Mr David Stanton (FG, Cork East) that "one global observer" had rated Ireland at the top with Australia, Canada, the UK, Holland and the US. "An international financial grouping rated this country as the first in Europe to achieve the highest rating category across a range of sectors."
The Minister added that while he was satisfied that the large and medium-sized businesses would be compliant, the Department was worried about the small business sector.
