There are “significant” delays to rush-hour Dart services following a traffic incident in south Dublin this morning.

Iarnród Éireann said the delays were caused after a truck hit level crossing barriers between Lansdowne Road and Sydney Parade stations.

Extensive damage was caused to a barrier at Serpentine level crossing and it has been removed.

It is understood the driver failed to stop the vehicle as the barrier descended, then the truck sped up to try and make it to the other side before colliding with the barrier at 8.36am.

Both north and south-bound services are affected.

Some services between Pearse and Dún Laoghaire stations had been suspended prior to 9am.

A spokesman for Iarnród Éireann said the truck had been removed and all services have resumed.

Delays of between seven and eight minutes are now being reported for north and south bound trains.

Dublin Bus is accepting all valid rail tickets.
