Classic Spanish and contemporary British drama, Greek tragedy and Irish street carnival are themes of NUI Galway’s first theatre season, which opens on campus and around the city this week.

A new performance devised by Macnas and the Irish premiere of a play by the author of the West End hit musical adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory are highlights of the season, which involves NUIG drama students working with leading companies and artists.

An adaptation of Spanish classic Yerma by Frederico Lorca is the opening production in association with Core Theatre College, running at the Mick Lally Theatre, Druid Lane, from February 13th to 15th. Irish dramatist Frank McGuinness's adaptation of the Greek tragedy Electra will run at NUIG's Cube Theatre from March 9th to 11th.

The Irish premiere of David Greig's Monster in the Hall runs from March 26th to 29th at Nun's Island Theatre, and the season concludes on April 2nd with a public performance by first-year students with Macnas.
