The SDLP has sold its headquarters on the Ormeau Road in Belfast.

The SDLP has been in financial difficulties in recent months, and particularly since it lost its three seats at Westminster. That deprived the party of about £100,000 in funding for research and policy development.

The decision to sell the HQ was taken before the election, said a party spokesman. The party did not say how much it got for the building but it had an asking price of about £175,000.

The party is planning to take up rented offices.
