Tehran - Iran's reformist parliament toned down its opposition to President Mohammad Khatami's new cabinet, raising no opposition to nominees for several important ministries on the third day of debate yesterday. There was no opposition to nominees for the ministries of intelligence, interior, foreign affairs, trade, transport and industry and mines.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Minister, Mr Kamal Kharrazi, said yesterday a wave of public hangings and floggings in Iran may paint a "violent image" of Islam in the world.
