A Kildare man has been found guilty by a jury of falsely imprisoning and orally raping a former prostitute and heroin addict during a two-hour ordeal on a lonely Wicklow mountain bog road in 1994.

Adrian Power (27), of Maddenstown, The Curragh, had denied the charges during his five-day trial at the Central Criminal Court.

Mr Justice Smith remanded him in custody for sentence on April 28th. He also directed the preparation of victim impact and probation reports for that hearing.

The victim told the jury that Power and a companion called Thomas Stokes "pulled her around like a rag doll" during her ordeal. She described how they took turns in forcing her into sexual activity while shouting threats at her.

Stokes was convicted in 1996 for his role in the crime and given a life sentence.

The offences happened at Powerscourt Mountain, Enniskerry, Co Wicklow, between 10 p.m. on December 29th and 2 a.m. on December 30th, 1994.

Two further charges against Power of raping and buggering the woman, now 25 and the mother of two, were withdrawn following submissions by Mr Paul McDermott SC, defending.
