The Government will tomorrow publish the report of the inquiry into the treatment of residents at the Leas Cross nursing home in Swords, Co Dublin.
The nursing home closed in August 2005 following an undercover RTÉ television Prime Time Investigatesprogramme, which raised concerns over the treatment of people living there.
The home was subsequently sold and opened under new management and with a new name.
In April 2007, Minister for Health Mary Harney commissioned an investigation into the management, operation and supervision of the home. Barrister Diarmuid O'Donovan is the sole member of the commission.
He had been due to publish his report last September, but the Government agreed to extend the deadline to the end of 2008.
Mr O'Donovan's terms of reference included examining the role and responses of the HSE and other bodies in relation to the operation of Leas Cross. He examined the response of the HSE and other bodies to complaints made by residents, former residents or their relatives.
The HSE's role in transferring residents from medical and residential care facilities to the nursing home was also examined.
Department of Health officials will brief the media on the report tomorrow afternoon and they will later be joined by Minister for Health Mary Harney and Minister for Older People Áine Brady.
Fine Gael front bench spokesman Fergus O’Dowd said the decision to publish the Commission of Investigation report on the Leas Cross nursing home on the same day as the 'Bord Snip' report was "a disgrace".
“This inquiry has cost over €2 million and has been with the Government since June but the only day they could pick to publish it is the same day as the report most calculated to dominate media and public attention," Mr O'Dowd said.
"After all the promises from Government on Leas Cross that we have been hearing since 2005 this is the final insult. It strongly suggests an attempt to deflect attention from the report rather than revealing all so that we can learn the lessons needed to protect older people in nursing home care.”
