A man (34) has died in Dublin's Mountjoy prison overnight.
The prisoner was discovered when prison staff unlocked his cell at 8.15 this morning.
The cause of death has not been established, but a Prison Service spokesman said he had a prior history of a particular illness that may have been a contributory factor.
The man was serving a five-day sentence, which began last night, and was sharing a cell. The spokesman said the dead man's cellmate said he was ill during the night but did not believe it to be serious.
