Mr Wallace, Elmwood Drive, Bangor, was arrested shortly after the killing at a house overlooking a park in the town.

The gathering was a farewell party for some friends travelling to Australia. Ms Hughes, from Chatsworth, Bangor, was taken to hospital, but died shortly afterwards.

Det Sgt Walsh told the court he could connect Mr Wallace with the charge. Mr Wallace, who wore a white sweater and tracksuit, was surrounded by prison officers during his 10-minute appearance.

He was remanded in custody until April 22nd to reappear at Bangor Magistrates’ Court.
