A man in his fifties died yesterday afternoon when a fire broke out in his house in Clones, Co Monaghan. Gardai in a patrol car saw smoke coming from a house on Fermanagh Street.
The Clones fire brigade, assisted by a unit from Monaghan fire brigade, put out the fire and the charred remains of a man were found in the the building. Gardai said the man was alone at the time.
