A man was arrested and a shotgun recovered in Antrim yesterday following a gun and petrol bomb attack on a house. Three children and three adults escaped injury when several petrol bombs were thrown at the house in Islandbawn Drive shortly after midnight. Police said they did not believe the attack was sectarian. When the occupant went to the living-room window to investigate, a shotgun blast was fired at him, showering him with glass. The petrol bombs caused extensive damage to the kitchen.
A man was arrested and a shotgun recovered later in the Ballycraigy area of the town. Meanwhile, two men were being questioned last night after weapons were seized by police investigating the death of RUC Const Frankie O'Reilly (30) in Portadown, Co Armagh.
A sub-machine gun and two shotguns were among the weapons found when officers searched the Glenfield Road area of Lurgan. Const O'Reilly died two weeks ago.
He had been critically injured the previous month when loyalists threw an explosive device at police in Portadown. An explosive device was also found during yesterday's search, police said.
