British police were today questioning a 23-year-old man under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
He was initially arrested in Colchester in the early hours of Tuesday for a minor traffic offence, Essex Police said.
As part of the investigation the Metropolitan and Essex Police forces raided addresses in Suffolk, a police spokeswoman added.
Colchester is home to a large number of Parachute Regiment troops.
