A Belfast judge criticised the ease with which a dole cheat was able to swindle more than £9,OOO in benefits from the Department of Health and Social Security.

At Belfast Crown Court, Judge John Petrie jailed Paul Quinn (29), Lenadoon, Belfast, for six months.

The court was told that Quinn was not only signing on in his own name, but made claims for a fictitious girlfriend. He also claimed benefits in the name of a friend who emigrated to the US and invented a girlfriend for him to make further claims.
