Madrid - Chilean military officials have flown to Spain to study the viability of a proposal to settle charges against the former dictator, Gen Augusto Pinochet, out of court, El Pais newspaper reported yesterday.

The military delegation would meet the general's Spanish lawyers and diplomatic allies to establish under what circumstances arbitration between Chile and Spain could take place, the newspaper said. The former dictator is under house arrest in London, awaiting extradition proceedings in September.
