A New North-South body known as the Loughs Agency was established in Derry yesterday. The agency replaces the Foyle Fisheries Commission, which was the first and only cross-Border body of its type and which provided a model for the those proposed in the Belfast Agreement.
At a North-South Ministerial Council in Derry, it was agreed to continue with plans to establish an advisory forum. Membership will be comprehensive, the council said after the meeting. It will include those directly affected by the work of the agency, such as shell-fishermen, salmon netsmen, anglers and angling clubs, fisheries owners and tourism operators.
