Kabul - The newly appointed opposition prime minister in Afghanistan was killed in an air crash yesterday at a remote airfield, a spokesman for the opposition alliance said.

Mr Abdur Rahim Gaffurzai, who had been foreign minister in the government driven from Kabul by the Taliban militia last September, was chosen as the opposition prime minister on August 13th. Several other people were also killed in the central Afghanistan crash.
