London - Scientists have discovered the world's oldest flowering plant - a type of magnolia with no petals which sprouted 140 million years ago, it was disclosed yesterday. The discovery was described in the journal Science.

The long-extinct prehistoric plant, growing among dinosaurs and giant dragonflies, was buried in ash when a volcano erupted.
