A man and a woman were due in court today following a car hijacking in Cork yesterday evening.
A female garda received bruising to her face while a male garda was bitten on the hand as they arrested the pair in Co Tipperary.
The incident began at 7.30 yesterday when a woman who was sitting in her car outside a fast food restaurant on Main Street, Carrigtwohill, Co Cork.
A man armed with a knife accompanied by a woman got into the the victim's car and forced her to drive them to Glanmire. The car stopped and the man ordered the victim out of her car before driving the car away.
At 8.40, the car was stopped by members of the Garda's Cashel Traffic Unit when it hit a number of parked cars. The man and the woman got our of the car and assaulted two members of the Garda while being arrested.
The culprits were taken to Cahir Garda Station and were due to appear in Dungarvan Court at 10.30am. The man is 25 years of age and the woman is 28.
The gardai were treated in St Joseph's Hospital, Clonmel.
