Asuncion - Paraguayan radio exit polls said the ruling Colorado Party had won yesterday's presidential elections, but the opposition Democratic Alliance proclaimed itself the winner.
Two radio exit polls said the Colorado candidate, Mr Raul Cubas, took 52 per cent of the vote versus 45 to 46 per cent for the Alliance leader, Mr Domingo Laino. But Mr Laino told a news conference his own polls showed a "clear triumph" for the Alliance.
The Colorados have ruled Paraguay for 51 years. Their supporters took to the streets blowing horns, waving red flags and firing crackers into the air.
