British army bomb disposal experts this morning recovered the remains of a pipe bomb in east Belfast this morning after a loud bang was reported last night.

The bang was heard in the Sydenham area of the city at 10.30 p.m.

This morning the remains of a pipe bomb were discovered on the rail line at the rear of the Oval sports ground in the area.

A concrete junction box had been damaged in the blast but the rail line was not.
