Former Bosnian Serb president, Ms Biljana Plavsic, has been flown to the war crimes tribunal in The Hague from the Bosnian Serb capital, the deputy chairman of her party said yesterday. A diplomatic source in Sarajevo added she appeared to have gone of her own accord.
Ms Plavsic, a senior Bosnian Serb figure during the 1992-5 conflict, has not been indicted publicly by the tribunal.
Her party spokesman said he could not say if an indictment had been raised against her or if she had been summoned as a witness.
Ms Plavsic (70) broke ranks with Bosnian Serb hardliners in 1997 and attracted western support due to her criticism of alleged corruption among them. She retained her nationalist views but became less vocal over time, although she remained critical of arrests of alleged war criminals by NATO-led troops.
The Bosnian Serb wartime commander, Gen Ratko Mladic, and the former Bosnian Serb political leader, Dr Radovan Karadzic, are still at large, but other commanders are already in The Hague.
