London - Pro-independence Scottish nationalists yesterday gained a record 14 point lead over Britain's Labour party in an opinion poll on voting intentions for the new Scottish parliament.

The findings suggest the Scottish National Party (SNP) would be the largest party when elections are held for the new devolved Edinburgh parliament in May 1999. The System Three poll was commissioned by the Glasgow Herald newspaper.
