Warsaw - A priest linked to Solidarity was rebuked by his archbishop yesterday after saying Jews had no place in Poland's new government.

Father Henryk Jankowski's remarks, believed to have been aimed at Mr Bronislaw Geremek, who is being proposed as foreign minister, were characterised by Archbishop Tadeusz Goclowski as "an absolutely unwarranted exploitation of the pulpit, a display of incompetence and a lack of concern for the public good". - (Reuter)
