The Garda in Kinsale, Co Cork, has appealed to the public for assistance following what they describe as "a particularly vicious" robbery attack in which a woman in her 80s was held at knife-point by two men demanding money.

The men broke into the woman's home in Market Street, Kinsale, on New Year's Eve. After they put a knife to her throat demanding money, she managed to press an alarm button, which alerted a neighbour. The two men fled empty-handed.

Gardai have asked anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the Market Street area between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. on New Year's Eve to contact them in Kinsale at 021-772302.
