Refugees apply for asylum

Six Romanian refugees discovered in a container from Cherbourg to Rosslare have applied to the Department of Justice for political asylum. The six, five men and one woman, were found in the container of an articulated lorry when it was opened by its driver in Blackrock, Co Dublin, last Monday. They were taken into custody and released a few hours later after they had applied for political asylum, according to a Garda spokesman.
