London - The editor of the British Medical Journal has resigned as a professor at Nottingham University over the institution's controversial decision to accept £3.8 million in funding from a major tobacco company.

Mr Richard Smith said the decision to take the money from British American Tobacco (BAT) was a "serious mistake" which had damaged the university.
