Fine Gael has claimed that the abolition of duty-free sales would have "the single most detrimental effect on the Irish transport sector than any other development in a decade".

Jobs would be lost, Aer Rianta profits would be cut in half and fares would rise, the party's public enterprise spokesman, Mr Ivan Yates, claimed yesterday at a forum organised by the party at Dublin Airport.
