Rio de Janeiro - Rio plans to spruce up its emblematic monument of Christ with outstretched arms that towers over the coastal city with a $1.8 million facelift, its mayor said on Thursday. Inaugurated in 1931, the 1,000-tonne 38metre high Christ the Redeemer sits on top of Corcovado Mountain, acting as a reference point for Rio and a symbol for Brazil.
