Ms Yeats (52) was a current affairs producer with RTÉ Radio for many years.

She worked on programmes such as Today with Pat Kenny, Tonight with Vincent Browneand Five Seven Live, which was later replaced by Drivetime.

Ms Yeats originally studied microbiology in Trinity College Dublin but then opted for a change in career by studying journalism.

She worked as a reporter with the Irish Pressand Evening Pressbefore joining RTÉ around the time the newspaper group folded in 1995.

Her father, Michael, the only son of W.B. Yeats, died in January aged 86. He was a Fianna Fáil senator, a former cathaoirleach of the Seanad and a member of the European Parliament.

Ms Yeats died at her home in Dalkey, Co Dublin.

She is survived by her mother, Gráinne (Ní hÉigeartaigh), her sisters Siobhán and Caitríona and her brother Pádraig.

Arrangements for the funeral will be announced tomorrow.
