RUC arrest five following Portadown riot

Five people were arrested in Portadown, Co Armagh, this morning after a riot involving 200 people.

Five people were arrested in Portadown, Co Armagh, this morning after a riot involving 200 people.

An RUC spokesman said that after a number of sporadic fights and bottle throwing, officers were attacked by 200 youths throwing rocks and bottles.

The disorder in the town centre lasted for two hours.

The five were released on bail, and files have been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
