Police have seized a handwritten death threat and a series of photographs purported to have been issued by the Loyalist Volunteer Force in the Dungannon area.
The statement, sent to a local newspaper, warned that the extreme loyalist faction planned to renew its campaign of violence, and that known republicans would be executed on sight.
"Due to recent threats and targeting by known republican terrorists of security forces and leading loyalists, it has been necessary to step up armed military operations in and around the Dungannon area," it stated.
"Vehicle checkpoints have been and will continue to be set up at random. Any known republicans will be executed on sight." The RUC is investigating the matter.
