British tennis star Greg Rusedski has tested positive for the banned substance nandrolone, it emerged this evening.
The big serving British number two has pleaded his innocence but did confirm he provided a positive sample on July 23rd, 2003 in Indianapolis.
The 30-year-old now faces an ATP hearing in Montreal on February 9th.
"In response to media inquiries, I can confirm that a sample has tested positive for a low level of nandrolone," Rusedski said in a statement.
"I shall attend and I fully expect to be found innocent. I do not and have not taken performance-enhancing drugs," he added.
In the statement, Rusedski also said it was "a very complex situation which once understood will clearly demonstrate my total innocence.
"There is a hearing to be held in Montreal on February 9 which I shall attend. I fully expect to be found innocent."
Rusedski has been plagued by back, knee and foot injuries recently and earlier today lost the second match of his comeback in Adelaide when he went down 6-2 6-2 to unseeded Frenchman Cyril Saulnier.
The player had been on the sidelines since losing both his singles matches in last September's Davis Cup defeat in Morocco.
