Politicians, environmentalists and European officials will gather in Dublin today for talks on climate change.
Green Party leader and Environment Minister John Gormley will be among those at the conference hosted by the European Commission Representation in Dublin.
The panel of speakers will also include Oisín Coghlan, director, Friends of the Earth; Brendan Halligan, chairman, Sustainable Energy Ireland; and Lesley Butler, environmental business consultant.
Martin Territt, director of the European Commission Representation in Dublin, said the public seminar aimed to inform people on how to protect the environment. "Climate change is one of the greatest environmental, social and economic threats facing the world today," he said.
"It is only through co-operative action that we can address this real threat to lives and livelihoods in all parts of the world, and this is why the European Union has such an important role to play in tackling climate change."
The seminar begins at 7.30 pm in the Westin Hotel, Westmoreland Street. Those interested in attending the public debate can telephone 01-4751444.
