London - Siamese twins separated in an emergency operation to save their lives remained in a "stable" condition in hospital yesterday.

The new-born girls, from Bristol, who had been joined at the liver, are in intensive care at Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital after the operation on Friday.

They spent "a peaceful day" following "a very settled night", said a hospital spokeswoman.
