The international group dedicated to the growth and proliferation of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) has announced the appointment of Mr Christian Huitema of Microsoft and Mr Trefor Davies of Mitel Networks to its board of directors.

The SIP Forum's board of directors has responsibility for driving the activities of the organisation as it moves forward promoting SIP as the protocol of choice for IP communications.

SIP is the protocol that links telecoms and the Internet.

Mr Huitema currently serves as architect for the Windows and Networking Communications Group at Microsoft. He leads Microsoft networking support projects including the evolution of TCP/IP and SIP in the Windows environment.

"SIP presents an unparalleled opportunity to the networking industry as a whole," Mr Huitema said

"The SIP Forum provides a tremendous vehicle to accelerate the mainstream growth of SIP and help usher in a new era of interoperability and functionality in the networking industry".

Mr Davies currently serves as the head of next-generation network strategy at Mitel Networks where he oversees all SIP-related projects at the platform and desktop levels.

The SIP Forum is an international, nonprofit association whose mission is to promote awareness and provide information about the benefits and capabilities made possible by SIP.
