A human skull was found yesterday in a lorry load of sand being provided for a football field in south Donegal.
The skull, with teeth intact, and a number of bones were carried from a quarry at Carrick, Gweedore, 88km from their delivery at Naomh Bríd GAA club, Trummon, between Laghey and Ballintra.
Gardaí from the Ballyshannon and Glenties divisions are investigating.
Supt Jim Coen, who is in charge of the inquiry, said he was seeking expert opinion on the age of the bones.
