Dusseldorf - Two German physics students, who styled themselves heirs to the left-wing Baader-Meinhof gang, went on trial yesterday for attempted murder.

Prosecutors in Duesseldorf accused Mr Bernhard Falk and Mr Michael Steinau, both aged 30, on five counts of endangering life with the use of explosives. The two are suspected of being behind a series of bomb attacks on the homes of conservative German politicians and the Peruvian consulate in Duesseldorf during 1994 and 1995.
