Management and unions at South Korea's Hyundai Motor Co resumed wage negotiations this morning aimed at ending industrial strife at the company.
Unionised workers at the company have been holding a four-day strike. The union, the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, is a labour group with 00,000 members.
The company and unions restarted negotiations at 5 a.m. (Irish Time).A final proposal is due to be presented by the management.
The union is demanding a 10.48 per cent wage hike and a bonus worth 30 per cent of the company's profit. If agreed, this would lift average Korean auto worker pay rates to $27 an hour, above their US peer's $26 an hour.
A combined 110,000 workers at Hyundai Motor and smaller automakers, textile companies, department stores and other workplaces downed tools yesterday, demanding higher wages and better working conditions.
