Talks between IMPACT and Aer Lingus are to resume at the Labour Court this morning. SIPTU is to meet the court on Sunday.
The result of the SIPTU strike ballot is due today. Although the union has been claiming it has more than 500 cabin crew, it is understood that less than 50 people have so far voted.
In the ballot to reject the Labour Court recommendation last week, SIPTU announced that 90 per cent of those voting had rejected the deal. This is technically correct but the actual vote was only 49 against the court award and six in favour.
Meanwhile two Servisair baggage handlers have been suspended over an incident involving British Midland. The decision of British Midland to bring in staff from Britain to maintain services during a strike by Irish ground staff is causing mounting resentment.
Airport police personnel up to the rank of sergeant have refused to process identity tags for British Midland staff. The work has been taken over by management grades.
