An Irish diplomat in Medjugorje, Bosnia, is assisting the family of a Dublin woman who has been missing from the pilgrimage town since last week.

Winnifred (Winnie) Brady (59), from Kilbarrack, was visiting the area with eight friends but disappeared after she was seen leaving her hotel early on the morning she was due to leave.

It was reported this afternoon that 200 troops are due to join the search for Mrs Brady tomorrow morning.

The Dublin woman suffers from arthritis, and it is believed she could not have travelled far without assistance.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Foreign Affairs said she believed five members of Mrs Brady's family are in Medjugorje.

"One of our embassy officials travelled there today and met with Mrs Brady's family and with the local authorities," she said.

The official will stay with the family as long as is necessary.
