Gardai have arrested two teenagers this afternoon in connection with a robbery in the Waterford village of Kilmacthomas this morning.
At 11.30am the teenagers broke in the private home in the village and made off with four firearms.
After the men fled the scene gardai were contacted and a description of the men and the car in which they were travelling was immediately circulated to local patrols.
A patrol car from Tramore intercepted the robbers minutes later but their patrol car was rammed by the robbers who fled the scene on foot.
The gardai pursued them and the men jumped into the sea and swam approximately 100 metres to a small island at Annestown where a stand-off ensued.
Shortly after 2pm this afternoon, the men left the island voluntarily and have been taken to Tramore garda station for questioning.
