Two men are recovering in hospital today after being shot in the legs in separate attacks in Belfast.

The two men were both shot while they were lying in bed.

A 23-year-old man was shot six times in the thighs in an attack in north Belfast. A 17-year-old once in the calf in the east of the city.

The RUC said three masked men entered a house at Fortwilliam Park in the north of the city. Two remained downstairs while the other went to a bedroom and fired six shots at the man before beating him on the head with the hand gun.

In an unconnected attack, two men wearing balaclavas broke into a house on the loyalist Tullycarnet estate at Dundonald, east Belfast. They went upstairs to a bedroom and shot the man as he lay in bed.
