British police said today there had been a "significant" forensic development in the case of a skydiver who plunged 13,000 feet to his death last July after his parachute cords were cut.
The announcement followed weekend media reports that suggested experienced skydiver Stephen Hilder had committed suicide - speculation the police described as unhelpful.
Humberside police declined to elaborate on the development but said forensic scientists would continue to conduct tests on DNA and fibres.
Media reports at the weekend said police were examining the theory of suicide after traces of sweat from Hilder's hands were found on the severed ends of one of the parachute straps.
They also said fibres which were released when the strap was cut were also found on Hilder's clothing, prompting police to believe he was present when his kit was sabotaged.
Mr Hilder (20) fell to his death at a national competition in northern England. Three people have been arrested in connection with the case but were released after being questioned.
