Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will insist on tighter security following an attack by a drunken fan on Ashley Cole at the end of the Gunners' clash with Roma in Austria.

It is the second time left-back Cole has been targeted by hooligans after he was struck on the head by a missile thrown while playing for England in Albania in March.

The 19-year-old dodged punches thrown by a drunken thug as the players left the field following Arsenal's 1-0 defeat in the small Austrian town of Kapfenburg.

A shaken Cole avoided being hit and scampered immediately for the sanctuary of the dressing room, but an angry Wenger said: "It is worrying that someone could get hurt, particularly the way they have let the fans on the pitch at the end of all three games.

"After one, we simply couldn't get out of the dressing room. In future we will ask for extra security."

At the end of Wednesday's defeat to the Italian champions Thierry Henry chased and grappled another fan who had snatched a shirt given him by a Roma player.

Cole said: "It was all a bit scary. The guy came up to me after the finish as I was going off and asked for my shirt.

"It seemed to me as if he had been drinking. Anyway, I said no and he took a swing at me.

"It was easy to get out of the way. I wasn't hurt but I was quick to get back to the dressing room, but it does make you realise it's dangerous to let fans come onto the pitch at the end."
